C'mon and do some of those strength training exercises!

You've got the equipment and the will power. Now what? Get started and do the strength training exercises! But this is where it becomes tricky, because according to different fitness and research institutions, different types of exercises are recommended and for different people.

Be extra careful if you have any health problems because these can be crucial and harming if you over exert yourself when your body cannot handle it. If you have any of the following health factors please see a medical professional before starting any type of exercise routine: any cardiovascular disease, family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, smoking, chronic hypertension, obesity, chronic muscle or joint problems, current pregnancy, recent surgery, arthritis, diabetes, asthma, or if you generally lead a inactive lifestyle. In these cases extreme exercise can be dangerous so please see a physician.

Once you are in the clear to do strength training exercises remember to do a warm-up and stretch, as suggested by the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Georgia State University. Also, always listen to your body. The "no pain, no gain" motto is a falsehood and can cause more harm than good. If you're in pain then stop, and let your muscles rest.

A basic strength training program generally has the following strength training exercises: bench press, bicep curl, tricep pulldown, squat, leg extension, leg curl and abdominal crunches. Some of these require special equipment, from free weights to Strength Training Equipment, but some of the strength training exercises require nothing more than your body and the force of gravity.
